Accounts Payable Lead

We are partnering with a growing, fast-paced construction organization in North Houston that is looking to add an experienced AP Lead to their accounting team. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for overseeing the full-cycle accounts payable function in a project-based, job-cost environment. This position will initially operate as the sole AP professional, with plans to build out additional support later this year. Ideal for someone who thrives in ownership, structure, and process improvement.

What You’ll Be Responsible For:

Accounts Payable Leadership

  • Oversee full-cycle AP in a high-volume construction environment (~50 invoices/day)
  • Review and approve invoices for proper coding to jobs, cost codes, and GL accounts
  • Ensure compliance with subcontract agreements, lien waivers, insurance certificates, and payment terms
  • Manage vendor onboarding including W-9s, insurance documentation, ACH forms, and internal controls
  • Process ACH, wires, positive pay, expense reports, and weekly payment runs
  • Assist with month-end close, AP accruals, and subledger reconciliations
  • Support year-end 1099 preparation and audit documentation

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of Accounts Payable experience (MUST HAVE construction industry experience)
  • Experience with a construction ERP system (not just QuickBooks), and strong Excel skills
  • Strong understanding of lien laws, subcontractor pay applications, and project/job-cost accounting
  • Full-cycle AP experience: vendor setup, W-9s, 1099s, ACH/wires, positive pay, compliance documentation
  • Previous lead or supervisory experience preferred
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage competing deadlines
  • Professional, pleasant personality with strong cross-functional communication skills
