Accounting Manager 

A privately held, multi-entity organization is seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to take ownership of its day-to-day accounting operations and bring additional structure, accuracy, and consistency to the finance function.

This is a highly hands-on role suited for an accounting professional who enjoys working across multiple areas rather than operating within a narrowly defined scope. The Accounting Manager will serve as the primary internal accounting resource, reviewing the work of an established accounting team, resolving complex issues, and partnering closely with company leadership and outside financial professionals.

While this position provides oversight and direction to the accounting team, it does not currently carry direct people-management responsibilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Take ownership of day-to-day accounting activities across multiple affiliated entities
  • Review financial transactions and supporting documentation for accuracy, appropriate coding, and proper entity allocation
  • Perform and review bank, credit card, intercompany, vendor, and general ledger reconciliations
  • Maintain accurate financial records within QuickBooks and ensure consistency across entities
  • Review accounts payable and accounts receivable activity and troubleshoot discrepancies
  • Support monthly and annual closing activities, including reconciliations, adjustments, and financial reporting
  • Coordinate sales and use tax filings, 1099 reporting, and other recurring accounting compliance requirements
  • Assist with workers’ compensation reporting, audits, and supporting documentation
  • Monitor cash activity and assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis
  • Research accounting discrepancies and independently drive issues through resolution
  • Serve as a knowledgeable resource to the internal accounting team and review work for completeness and accuracy
  • Partner with external CPAs, tax advisors, financial institutions, insurance providers, and other third-party partners
  • Evaluate existing accounting processes and recommend improvements to strengthen controls and increase efficiency
  • Step into additional accounting responsibilities as business needs evolve

Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • Strong hands-on knowledge of general ledger accounting, reconciliations, and financial reporting
  • Previous experience supporting multiple entities or business units
  • Advanced working knowledge of QuickBooks
  • Experience with bank and credit card reconciliations, AP/AR, and month-end close
  • Familiarity with sales and use tax, 1099 reporting, and other accounting compliance requirements
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills
  • Ability to identify inconsistencies, investigate financial activity, and resolve issues independently
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and follow-through
  • Comfortable operating in an environment where priorities and responsibilities may shift
  • Ability to provide accounting oversight and guidance without formal direct-report responsibility

Experience within a privately held, multi-entity, industrial, manufacturing, construction, real estate, energy, distribution, or other operationally complex organization is a plus.
